Heaven for Riders, Photographers, Trekkers, Poets, Writers and many more, Spiti is one places which can not be described in words. You have to visit this region to believe the beauty it can offer. A variety of Lakes, Monasteries, Glaciers and wildlife, it offers a perfect off city destination to search your soul.

Accessible only through road, the whole journey to Spiti itself is a reason to just go out an explore it. Though open all across the year through Shimla side, summers are recommended to vist the Spiti region. Between June to October are the best months to visit Spiti, but winter can offer all together different view, not much seen.

Some of the Key places to visit are, Nako, Dhankar, Tabo, Pin Valley, Kaza, Kibber, Gete, Langza, Hikkim Komic, Ranrgik Losar, Kunzum Pass, Chandrataal, Gramphoo etc.

Some of the major monastery are Kye Monastery, Kaza Monastery, Dhankar Monastery, Tabo Monastery, and few others.

You can plan your trip either through Manali side or through Shimla side, but we recommended you doing it through Shimla side as this route acclimatizes much better by the time you reach Chandataal, which is at 4300 meter height.

Major town is Kaza, right in the middle of Spiti, which has all kind of stay facility and other little luxuries. But you can find Guest Houses and Home-stays in all other small villages, which gives your a completely different perspective of local life.

Thanks a lot for putting all the details in a Map. I was looking for this kind of map for doing Spiti circuit. Is it possible to do this in a week time, if we remove some of the not so important places?
This map will help south Indians like us to plan the trip properly.

    Thanks,
    Bijesh

Hi Rajiv… Thanks for sharing your brilliant photolog and the important details. If possible I would also like to have the plan details from Delhi – Delhi that you shared with Bijesh. I intend to cover this circuit this year with my wife. What is the best time to go as per you? I have a 4WD and we are the adventurous kind (The kind that drive all the way to the last ITBP post in Chitkul). Thanks a bunch.

    Superb pictures.. Hats off.

Where do you think I should stay if I am driving down to that area. Should it be in Kaza for 2 nights and drive to Kibber and back on one of the days. Or should I stay in Kibber itself for 2 nights.

    Thanks in advance

    • Rajiv April 14, 2015   Reply →

I would suggest stay at Kaza for 1 night, and then Kibber or Langza for next night.

  • Karthik March 27, 2015   Reply →

Hey I am thinking to visit the spiti circuit via buses n planning to leave on 7/8 october with one more friend…can you suggest an itenary and other essentials which would help me in my travel.
Also if you could tell me the bus timings of that region.

    • Rajiv October 7, 2016   Reply →

      Hi Sanket,

Assuming you start from Shimla side, you can get a bus from Shimla bus stand till Recong Peo and stay for a night there.
From Recong peo, you have two options, Bus or shared Taxi. You can plan you trips around places like Tabo, Pin Valley, Komic, and Kibber. You will have to figure out the taxi for Pin Valley, Kibber and Komic from Kaza,

Chandraatal will close by then, you can take a chance
